Commandant: Dean S. Tyler |
|
|
Dean is
originally from Farmville, VA and is a
graduate of the Farmville Academy and Southside Virginia
Community College. Following graduation, he
enlisted in the United States Navy and served for a period of
four years as a corpsman. Dean then enlisted into the Marine
Corps and served until he retired at the rank of
First Sergeant in 1998. He
is also retired from the County of Currituck where he
had served as chief bailiff. Dean and his wife currently reside in Moyock. Dean
assumed the duties of the office of Commandant for the
Outer Banks Detachment on 11 January 2011.

Senior Vice-Commandant:
Robert J. Yanacek |
|
|
Originally from Euclid, OH, Robert is a graduate of Eucid
High School and Cleveland State University. Robert
served in the Marine Corps for a period of 23 years
until his retirement in 2001 at the rank of Master
Sergeant. He, along with his
wife and children currently reside in Kill Devil Hills.
Robert is a charter-member of the Outer Banks Detachment
and has served in a number of billets including
Web Sergeant, Sergeant-at-Arms and Junior Vice-Commandant.
Robert assumed the duties as Senior Vice-Commandant for
the Outer Banks Detachment on 11 January 2011.

Junior Vice-Commandant:
Elvin S. Spivey |
|
|
Elvin is
originally from Elizabeth City, NC and is a
graduate of John A. Holmes High School in Edenton and
East Carolina University. Following his
graduation, Elvin enlisted into the Marine Corps.
He served for a period of six years and was discharged
as a Staff Sergeant. Following his discharge from
the Marine Corps, Elvin worked in the insurance industry
until his retirement in 2009. Elvin and his wife
currently reside in Columbia. Elvin assumed the
duties of the office of Junior Vice-Commandant for the
Outer Banks Detachment on 11 January 2011. |

Judge
Advocate: Dan Hudson
|
|
|
Originally from
Texarkana, TX, Dan is a graduate of Bauxite High
School and and Arkansas Technical. Following his
graduation, Dan was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant
and was subsequently designated as a naval aviator.
Dan continued to fly in the Marine Corps with Marine
Aerial Refueler Transport Squadrons until his retirement
in 1995 at the rank of Major. He is currently
employed by Federal Express as a pilot. Dan and his wife currently reside in
Corolla. He assumed the duties as the Outer Banks
Detachment's Judge Advocate on 11 January 2011.

Adjutant:
Edward (Pat) Riley |
|
|
Pat is
originally from Portsmouth, VA and is a graduate of the
Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of
Virginia. Pat served a period of two years in the
U.S. Army prior to his service in the Marine Corps
Reserve. He was employed as a computer specialist
for the U.S. Air Force until his retirement in 1993.
Pat and his wife currently
reside in Corolla where he serves as a volunteer
firefighter and as an assistant lighthouse keeper for
the Currituck Beach Lighthouse. Pat assumed his
current duties as the Outer
Banks Detachment's Adjutant on 11 January 2011.

Chaplain:
Rick Lawrenson |
|
|
Originally
from Washington, DC, Rick was the son of a Marine
Gunnery Sergeant. He holds undergraduate and
graduate degrees from Liberty University. and since 1991
he has been the Lead Pastor of Nags Head Church.
In addition, he has served the Town of Nags Head Public
Safety departments as Chaplain since 2003. With
his wife Gail, Rick resides in Kitty Hawk. The
Lawrensons have three grown and married children, two
grandchildren, and a third expected during 2011.
Rick has served as the Chaplain of the Outer Banks Detachment since
13 January 2009.

Paymaster:
Robert L. Messinger |
|
|
Originally
from Abington, PA, Bob is a graduate of Penn
State University and a charter-member of the Outer Banks
Detachment. Bob served a period of eight years in
the Marine Corps Reserve retired as a after 38 years of
employment as a design engineer and as a warehouse
distribution manager. Bob and his wife currently
reside in Kill Devil Hills. Bob has served as the
Paymaster for the Outer Banks Detachment since it
received its charter on 17 February 2007 and has a
collateral duty as the detachment's Toys for Tots
coordinator.

Public Affairs Officer:
Doug Wendling |
|
|
Originally from
central Michigan, Doug served in the Marine
Corps for a period of six years and was
discharged as a Corporal. He then attended
and graduated from Central Michigan University.
Doug retired as the human resources director for
Philips Semiconductors. He is a charter-member of the Outer Banks
Detachment and served as its first Commandant,
then as the Detachment's Judge Advocate.
Doug was also the driving force in organizing
our local Marines to form a Marine Corps League
detachment on the Outer Banks. He and his
wife currently reside in Corolla. |

Sergeant-at-Arms: Kevin Wescott |
|
Kevin is originally from Virginia Beach, VA and is a
graduate of Frank W. Cox High School.
Following graduation, Kevin served in the Army National Guard for a period of
seven years. Kevin currently owns and operates Luxury
Limousine here on the Outer Banks. He and his wife
reside in Kill Devil Hills, where he also
serves as a volunteer firefighter. His hobbies
include collecting military uniforms, equipment, and
memorabilia. Kevin has served as
the Outer Banks Detachment's Eagle Scout Recognition Officer
since 10 January 2012.
