NEWS AND CURRENT EVENTS

Associate Member Elizabeth WendlingOUTER BANKS DETACHMENT WELCOMES ASSOCIATE MEMBERS.  Individuals not qualified for regular membership in the Marine Corps League, but who espouse the principals and purposes of the League, may be accepted as Associate Members.  Associate members are entitled to the same rights, privileges and benefits as regular members, however they may not hold elective office or vote in matters regarding membership applications, the election of Officers, or in matters prohibited by Marine Corps League policies and procedures.  We have just received our first application for Associate Membership from Elizabeth Wendling (pictured to right), wife of Detachment Commandant Doug Wendling and wish to welcome her aboard.  For those interested in Associate Memberships, additional details and information can be found at "Become a Regular or Associate Member" as well as an interactive Associate Membership application.

CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES.  Detachment Chaplain, Reverend John Strauss married Elizabeth (Betty) Witters of Myerstown, Pennsylvania on 14 October 2007.  The couple looks forward to good health and traveling.  Welcome to the Marine Corps family Betty!

MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCE IN NAGS HEAD.  Detachment members Doug Wendling, Leonard Stone, Lee Baronet, and Tim Gregory attended a Memorial Day service in Nags Head on 28 May 2007.  A number of photographs of that special event may be viewed at: Miscellaneous Photographs.

Limited Edition "Devil Dog" SculptureDETACHMENT RECEIVES DONATION.  A limited edition "Devil Dog" sculpture was recently donated to the Outer Banks Detachment by Colonel Tony Manning, USMC (Ret.).  We extend our sincere thanks to Tony for his most generous gift.  This "Devil Dog" is a 31st limited-edition sculpture, and is numbered 1,200 of 3,000 with a certificate to attest to its authenticity.  This will undoubtedly make a superb raffle prize for our upcoming celebration of the Marine Corps' 232nd birthday. RECRUITING AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS.  Two recruiting posters are available on-line for members to print and place at strategic locations in the Outer Banks area.  Getting the word out about our detachment to our fellow Marines is vital to our organization and its mission of fellowship and service to our community.  Posters provide an excellent means to assist us in locating and inviting our comrades to become members of our detachment.  In addition, each poster makes the general public aware of our presence and our commitment to our local community.  We ask that every member print and post at least two posters in locations frequented by local residents.
